“Imagine having to leave everything behind you on short notice, including most of your possessions, your friends and your planet!” – Steven Hobbs (p. 160)

Okay, so our troops aren’t leaving the planet, but it’s sure to feel that way at times. They’re a long way from home — far away from their families and friends.

This book is a warm reminder of what’s waiting for them when they return. There are stories to put a smile on their face and photos to give them something familiar to look at while they’re deployed to a world so very different from our own.

When you buy this book you're sharing our thoughts and prayers for our troops - you are sending the message they are not forgotten back home and that we look forward to their safe return.

And when you buy this book, you are sending a precious gift - proceeds from every book sold is donated to Legacy to support the families of deceased veterans and dependents of members of today's Australian Defence Force who lose their lives as a result of their military service.

Operation Trooplift is a unique book that hits all the right points. It is at times funny, poignant, beautiful and always entertaining. An excellent collection of original poetry, prose and photography. The illustrations are wonderful, and each piece is delightfully written by the respective author/poet. Every page reflects the heart, soul and humour of Australia.

As for every copy sold, another copy is sent to the Australian soldiers serving overseas, the intention behind the book is to cheer the spirits of the troops, to bring a smile to their faces, and to remind them of what is still waiting patiently for them back home. From the reactions this book drew out in me, I can easily imagine that they would all find the collection as memorable and uplifting as I did.

I would recommend this book to any one.

If Originality is a river, 'Operation Trooplift' is the source. I must admit this is an unique publication containing a wide range of original short-stories, poems, illustrations and photographs. It appears that quality control was the editor's principal priority here. This book delivered me many laughs, some profound tears, renewed faith in the good of humanity, wonderment at the talents of the chief illustrator, and optical delights from the stimulating photography. According to the cover notes, this unusual addition to my book collection, contains new works donated by a diverse range of individuals and talents, all working for the one organization. And the book was initiated and compiled by a small group of volunteers working for the same organization. This book also reflects many positive aspects of the hearts and characters of Australia's people, as well as of its flora, fauna, culture and scenery. And apparently it is all for a purely non-profit good cause - for every book sold, another will be sent to one of Australia's soldiers deployed overseas fighting for freedom from the threat of terrorism alongside of their United States, British, Canadian, and the many other members of the 'coalition of the willing', counterparts. This book, in the hands of such soldiers, is designed to give them smiles, hope and motivation - a reminder of what joys these soldiers have to look forward to when they return home to Australia. I am sure it will deliver - this book is sure to inspire them to do a good job, take care doing it, and to return home safely to their family and friends. Operation Trooplift feeds the mind, fires the eyes and nurtures the soul. Not many like it around - grateful I took up my friend's recommendation.
